BEEP TESTBeep tests conducted every Tuesday at 5.30pm. No booking required. The multi-stage fitness test, also known as the bleep test, beep test, pacer test, or 20-m shuttle run test, is used to estimate an individuals VO2 max (aerobic capacity), which reflects the physical fitness of the individual. The beep test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 metres apart. These runs are synchronized with pre-recorded audio, which plays beeps at set intervals. As the test proceeds, the interval between each successive beep reduces, forcing the individual to increase their speed over the course of the test, making it increasingly difficult to keep in sync with the recording. The recording is typically structured into 21 stages, with each stage lasting 1 minute. Usually, the interval of beeps is calculated as requiring a speed at the start of 8.0 km/h, increasing by 0.5 km/h with each stage thereafter. The progression from one stage to the next is signalled by 3 rapid beeps. The highest stage attained before failing to keep up is recorded as the score for that test. Sunshine Coast PCYC's Strength & Fitness provider is specially trained to administer the beep test and assist anyone wishing to improve their beep test score as required for physical fitness entry requirements for Defence or Police Service applicants.
